Crows Nest Ranch campground lies in a transition zone between the upper elevations of the Davis Mountains and the lower pine, oak, juniper woodlands, while the road into the campground stretches across high desert grassland so valuable to ranching.
Our remote mountain canyon offers wildlife food, water and a rich, sheltered habitat year around. Hummingbirds are best seen during mid-to-late summer. Besides the mule deer that frequent the campground, watch for javelina, fox, coyotes, auodad, bobcat. (Cougars don't stray down the mountain.) Please don't toss out table scraps or large amounts of corn or birdseed, but wildlife always appreciates a pan or two of water!
From the campground, mountain landmarks Mitre Peak, Haystack and others rise into each colorful sunrise. (No special filters or artistic license necessary!)
Climb to the top of Brown Mountain and look across to Mount Livermore as few people ever see it.
Our abundance of wildlife means there's a good chance you'll catch something posing.

From the tiniest wildflower to an ancient alligator juniper, nature waits to inspire.
Make an appointment to visit Old Spanish Trail Gallery and enjoy painted views of our mountains, wildflowers and wildlife. No need to dress up. We're sort of wild, too. 432.249.1968

You don't need a telescope to enjoy our skies, but if you have one, this is the place to bring it!
Let us know your special needs and we'll try to help give you the best viewing experience.
We love to help astronomers view our dark skies, and we'll turn the few campground lights off for you on request.
